Makeups Right For Teens' Makeups

As teenage girls head back to school, many are thinking about wearing makeup for the first time.

So what are some of the trendiest, yet most age-appropriate looks for them -- and which will help them look their best?

Lisa Garner, a consulting makeup artist for Sephora, shared her expertise on that on The Early Show Wednesday.

Garner explained how to get looks that are not only "in," but fresh and not overdone.

Those looks should spare teens the embarrassment that many women have looking back at pictures from high school, with their bad blue eye-shadow, weird, stripey blush, and over-lined lips and eyes!

The key words for teen makeup today, Garner says: neat and natural, with a little pop of color here and there.

Garner applied makeup on models to demonstrate her points:

MODEL #1: Britney (African American)

One of the biggest trends for fall, both in fashion and beauty, is the color purple. But a girl has to be careful when putting purple on her face -- we want "pretty," not clown-ey. On Britney, Lisa swept a wash of grape eye-shadow across the eyelids, then lined the eyes with a Sephora metallic purple pencil. Eyes are finished off with a coat of black mascara. Then, Lisa applied a deep pink blush to the apples of her cheeks, and finished off the look with a slick of clear gloss on the lips. Keeping the mouth neutral helps highlight the eyes even more, and Lisa really wanted the color to pop with this fun look.

MODEL #2 Lisha (part Asian, part Irish)

For Lisha, Lisa decided to put the focus on her lips, which she emphasized with a sheer berry lipstick, just dabbed on with no liner, so it looked as if she'd been eating late summer berries. To complement the lips and keep the face balanced, Lisa lined and defined the eyes with black kohl liner and a clean coat of black mascara. Like many teens, Lisha had a blemish, so Lisa used a cooling cover up stick to hide it. She then finished the look off with a soft rose blush for a natural, glow-ey look that's perfectly age-appropriate.

MODEL #3 Dre (Caucasian blonde)

For Dre, who still has that tan glow of summer, Lisa wanted to show a fairly neutral, pretty, everyday look. Lisa used a soft brown shadow swept over her eyes, followed by a coat of black mascara. On the cheeks, she used a sweet pink shade of blush to compliment the tan Dre still has. For the lips, Lisa used a Sephora lip gloss ball for a peachy pink, neutral look. She also used a liner, but used it all over the lip and applied it very softly so there were no harsh lines. This helps keep on the lip gloss, but won't leave an outline as it wears away.
