Lansing Robbed At Gunpoint

Mike Lansing of the Colorado Rockies was struck across the head with a shotgun during a mugging in which he and his wife were robbed of an estimated $40,000 in property and cash.

Police said the second baseman and his wife, Kathleen, were robbed of cash and jewelry, including two $17,000 watches, early Sunday in downtown West Palm Beach.

Palm Beach police Lt. Pat Maney said the Lansings were walking through a scenic downtown park on the way to their parked car when two men approached pointing a shotgun.

"They basically demanded all of their property and their jewelry," said Maney.

Kathleen Lansing dropped to the ground while her husband handed over their Rolex watches, cell phone, money and her purse. The watches were worth at least $17,000 each, according police reports.

The Lansings, who are part-time Palm Beach Gardens residents, were not seriously hurt, but during the confrontation, Lansing was struck across the head with the shotgun, which caused some cuts, Maney said. He was treated at Good Samaritan Hospital and released.
