John Oliver complains about superhero movies, pitches his own

John Oliver might be off this week from hosting duties, but he’s still on the ball: The comedian took to a web exclusive to complain about superhero movies.

“Every year the market is flooded with movies about superheroes,” lamented the “Last Week Tonight” host.

Oliver revealed his own nicknames for this year’s superhero movies, like “Mean Spiderman” for “Deadpool, “Sadman v Super Sadman” for “Batman v Superman” and “The Insane Clown Posse takes Manhattan” for “Suicide Squad.”

“I do think some audience members are feeling a little fatigued at seeing the same characters over and over again,” said Oliver.

But the comedian has a solution: He wants to revive a character he dreamed up in fifth grade named Johnny Strong for a movie next summer.

“He is mild-mannered fifth grader John Olivier -- no relation -- but when school lets out by dinner, he becomes the unconventionally handsome hero Johnny Strong,” explained Oliver as he showed off a crude sketch of the hero.

Oliver said that Johnny Strong fights villains like Doc Bedtime and Mrs. Thomas the clarinet teacher: “He’s seen a boob, and he knows what the F-word is.” Sounds formidable.
