Jennifer, Vince 'Break Up' Anew, On DVD!
Fans were drawn to "The Break Up" not only by the movie's star power, but also the off-and-on screen romance of Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn.
But The Early Show entertainment contributor Jess Cagle says that fans were also intrigued by how real and somewhat depressing the movie turns out to be.
Now the movie is available on DVD and is complete with extended scenes and outtakes that feature some of Vaughn's notorious ad-libbing as well as an alternative ending.
The story starts when Vaughn offers Aniston a hot dog at a Chicago Cubs game. The two characters fall in love, but after a few years, the relationship goes sour.
"We wanted to do something original when … you look at where a relationship gets to a point where it's starting to peter out," Vaughn said at the time of the movies theatrical release. "We wanted to look at the funny side. There's some big comedy in the movie."
The movie also looks at the more serious side of romance in a very simple way. Aniston said audiences responded to this comedy's very realistic look that a love affair gone bad.
"The amount of people that sort of have come up to me and just said, 'I've had that fight, that's been me. Or, 'Thank God we saw this movie,' " Aniston said when the movie came out. "It made us realize how silly our fights are."
Vaughn said that from the beginning that he had one actress in mind to play his girlfriend: Aniston.
"We wanted someone who was good at drama and comedy, and Jennifer's good at both," he said.
Sparks began flying on the set, and now the couple is one of the most watched in the entertainment industry. Appearing on Oprah yesterday, Aniston denied tabloid reports that she and Vaughn broke up. During their separate appearances on The Early Show to promote the film, they had glowing praise for each other.
"She's kind, she's considerate to everyone around her, she's funny, a great person," Vaughn said of Aniston.
"He's kind. He loves his family," Aniston said of Vaughn. "He knows how to have fun. He's not on the same trip as some celebrities."
