It's A Boy!

Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington state and her husband, Brian, welcomed a baby boy into the world early Sunday morning at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland, according to a statement by her office.

She becomes the first member of Congress to give birth in over a decade.

Cole McMorris Rodgers was born four weeks premature and weighed only five pounds nine ounces. He is currently in the neonatal intensive care uni t at the hospital to "address minor complications," according to the statement.

“Brian and I are overjoyed by the birth of our son,” said McMorris Rodgers in a quote circulated by her office. “Although he arrived early, both the baby and I are doing well and recovering at the hospital. We look forward to soon being able to bring our son home.”

A spokeswoman told the Associated Press that the congresswoman will take a month off to recover and attend to the newborn. This is the couple's first child - just as this is my first birth announcement.

McMorris is in her second term.
