Your mouse's scroll wheel can be used for a lot more than just scrolling. For example, did you know you can use it to raise and lower your PC's audio volume? Or copy and paste text? I use the scroll wheel constantly for plain old scrolling. But I've configured its "button" capability so that when I click it, it registers a double-click -- great for launching applications from the desktop (and other instances where double-clicking is required). To see what options are available for your mouse, venture into the Control Panel and find the Mouse settings applet.
