How Somnoplasty Works

The physician applies a local anesthetic and the tip of the Somnus device is inserted into the soft tissue in the back of the mouth. An electrode on that tip applies the radio frequency to the area, which is heated.

The procedure creates a lesion in the tissue. The patient experiences some swelling and a mild sore throat.
Over a period of three to six weeks that lesion is naturally healed. As it heals, it's absorbed by the body and reduced in size. The reduction in size results in reduced snoring for most patients.
