GOP ad targets Democrat by connecting him to San Francisco

A new attack ad was unveiled Tuesday by the GOP-aligned Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) super PAC featuring actors playing San Francisco residents thanking the state of Georgia for 'giving' them another House representative.

"We already have Nancy Pelosi as our Congresswoman," says one actor. "Now you're going to give us Jon Ossoff as our Congressman."

Mr. Ossoff, a 30-year-old Democratic newcomer running in a special election to fill now now-Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price's vacated House seat, has garnered over $8 million in campaign contributions mainly from outside Georgia. This has helped prompt speculation that the erstwhile Republican stronghold could be flipped for the first time since 1979.

The unconventional ad features several people standing in front of famous San Francisco landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, and Chinatown, lauding the candidate for wanting to "raise taxes" and "weaken the military".

This is the latest attempt by conservatives to link Ossoff and House Minority Leader Pelosi, D-California, ever since the former came close to avoiding a runoff in last month's first round of the special election.

It's been a constant line of attack for Republicans who wish to protect their majority in Congress. Ossoff's Republican opponent Karen Handel, for instance, warned that he would just be Pelosi's "rubber stamp."

Democratic leaders, including Pelosi, held a fundraiser for Ossoff in March. Handel has received endorsements from both Speaker Paul Ryan and President Trump.

The special election will be held on June 20, 2017.
