Google, Virgin and Me

The top Dream Employers were announced this morning, following a survey of 2,965 respondents in Australia and New Zealand.
The research, conducted by Insync Surveys and RedBalloon, found that the top three dream employers were Google, the Virgin Group (including all those who just said "Richard Branson") and --- interestingly --- working for oneself. The emphasis was no doubt on "Dream", because the research also found that 78 percent of the respondents were not working for the company they voted for.

Breaking down the statistics for the dreamily employed, however, it was found that 38 percent of Baby Boomers were working for their Dream Employer; but for Gen Y that number dropped to 20 percent. Now, that could be because they're never going to grow up, or perhaps it's simply because they're in what's probably their first job.

Here's the final list of the top 10:

  1. Google
  2. Virgin Group
  3. Working for oneself
  4. Apple
  5. Qantas
  6. The Walt Disney Company
  7. OMD
  8. Sydney Water
  9. Getaway
  10. Coca Cola
Respondents were also asked what they thought made an employer "a nightmare" and, though they didn't name and shame, the top reason cited was "Poor Culture".
