Good Use for Buzzwords: Corporate Bingo!
I wrote yesterday about my distaste of corporate jargon in the workplace, and already a few of you have chimed in with great comments. My favorite thus far comes from jwlester, who suggested:
"Let's use Corporate Bingo as a solution. Bingo cards with the buzzwords in the boxes are issued at each meeting. People keep track of the jargon and if you get a line, you can leave the meeting and get some actual work done. If you end up the only one left in the meeting, you get the joy of yet another corporate training day on the subject of your line managers choice."Brilliant! I love the thinking there. It kills two birds with one stone - finds an actual use for the jargon, and provides an escape from meeting hell.
Also, my colleague Phil Dobbie from Down Under tackled the topic last summer and got some great input from his Australian audience. If you'd like to take a peek at how much the other side of the world hates jargon (and learn how it differs from ours), read his Corporate Twaddlespeak post.
