Good Ratings For Match Play

Despite the lack of a bona fide superstar, the early television ratings for the Andersen Consulting Match Play show it held its own against other weekend sporting events.

The preliminary overnight Nielsen ratings for the Andersen event on ABC were 3.0/8 on Saturday and 4.2/9 on Sunday. Each rating point equals approximately 988,000 homes. The second number is the percentage of total sets in use.

By comparison, the Utah Jazz-San Antonio Spurs NBA game on NBC received a 4.6/10, while the Philadelphia Flyers-New York Rangers hockey game on Fox got a 1.7/4.
