GM Tests Free Car Insurance Offer for New Buyers

Auto buyers in Oregon and Washington can now take advantage of a unique incentive for new GM-made cars -- free car insurance for a year from MetLife. The offer is good on purchases made from now through September 6 on 2010-2012 models of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac cars, trucks, and crossovers.

GM is hoping the deal will tempt potential buyers concerned about the high cost of auto insurance to take the plunge. "We want to give residents of Oregon and Washington another reason to discover Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles," said Chris Perry, U.S. vice president of General Motors Marketing, in a press release.

The MetLife policy will include liability and physical damage to the vehicle and anyone who drives it with the owner's permission for one year from the date of purchase. The offer is not available on cars purchased or leased for primarily commercial or fleet purposes. Also, if a new car is damaged beyond repair within the car's first year or first 15,000 miles, whichever comes first, MetLife will repair or replace the vehicle with a new vehicle, without deducting for depreciation. Complete information about the offer and limits are available at these links for individual GM brands: Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac.

According to Time.com, GM executives have said that if the test program is successful, it could be rolled out to additional states. The executives also said that they were testing the offer in Oregon and Washington because of weak sales of GM cars in those states.
