Twelve-year-old Mackenzie Hughes was in her Troutdale, Ore. home all by herself after school Monday afternoon when she realized someone was trying to open the front door.
But she didn't panic.
She ran to her room in the back of the house and stayed very, very quiet as she called 911 - and hid under a blanket.
In the tape of the dramatic call, the dispatcher is heard helping Mackenzie stay calm, since any noise would tip off the crooks that she was there.
Police arrived in time to grab three suspects.
On "The Early Show" Wednesday, co-anchor Harry Smith told the story, then interviewed Mackenzie, her mother, Tracey Ferguson, and Mike Kellogg, the first officer on the scene:
