'Gilmore Girl' Grows Up

Alexis Bledel had no professional acting experience when she auditioned for The WB's television series "Gilmore Girls."

Bledel had just finished her first year of college at New York University when she was cast for the series. She tells The Early Show that she was shocked when she got the leading role and even more surprised when the show went on to become a hit, particularly among young women.

Now in its third season, "Gilmore Girls" focuses on the relationship between a young single mother, played by actress Lauren Graham, and her brainy teen-age daughter, played by Bledel.

This month, Bledel makes her first big-screen appearance in the movie "Tuck Everlasting." The Disney movie is based on the award-winning book by Natalie Babbitt about a family that found the secret to immortality. Bledel co-stars with heavyweight actors Sissy Spacek, William Hurt and Ben Kingsley.
