Recliners recalled due to fire hazard

About 81,000 power recliners are being recalled by Franklin Corp. after the manufacturer received reports of minor property damage to floors due to switches that can overheat, a federal regulatory agency said.

Franklin has received two reports of switches igniting and three reports of switches smoking on showroom samples. No injuries were reported.

The recall, announced Thursday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), involves power reclining furniture sold nationwide and online from October 2013 to December 2014 that have black rectangular power switches installed on the arm, console or side of reclining chairs, sofas and sectionals.

The furniture was sold under the name Franklin, based in Houston, Mississippi, or one of eight private labels: Big Sandy Superstore, Cardi's Furniture, Cimarron Lumber/Sutherland's, The Great American Home Store, Levin Furniture, Overstock.com, Raymour & Flanigan and Slumberland Furniture.

Consumers should immediately unplug the recalled units and contact Franklin for a replacement operating switch by calling toll-free: 866-551-2706 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or online at Franklincorp.com and click on the "Power Switch Recall" button.
