First Snowfall In Colorado
The first snowfall of the season blanketed Colorado Tuesday, and it's a welcome sight at ski resorts, reports CBS station KCNC-TV in Denver.
The snow fell and stuck on trees and grassy surfaces in and around Denver, says CBS News Meteorologist Craig Allen. In higher elevations, as you start getting to the ski resorts, there are reports of as much as five inches of snow.
The natural snowfall will help get runs ready for skiing sooner. Before Tuesday's snow, many resorts, including the Loveland ski area, had begun making their own powder.
But even in the mountains, the snow means a tough time on the roads. It slowed traffic on Interstate 70 and caused several small accidents. The state Department of Transportation is warning drivers to get ready for winter driving conditions.
Snow mixed with rain fell in the counties closer to the Denver metropolitan area.
The snow also snapped several power lines. Repair crews were out in force restoring power to thousands of customers.
