Fire Strikes Ohio Dormitory
Dozens of students at Heidelberg College were evacuated from their three-story dormitory after a fire broke out in the building's top floor early Saturday.
The fire was confined to the top floor and no injuries were reported, said college spokesman Jamie Abel.
He said the dormitory, Williard Hall, is home to 70 students but he did not know how many were in the building when the fire broke out around 4 a.m.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and there is no estimate of damages, Abel said.
The dormitory was built in 1907 and had major renovations in 1993 that included alarms and a sprinkler system, Abel said.
Two buildings adjacent to Williard were evacuated as a precaution, he said. One building is a dorm that shares a hallway with Williard, the other is a former private residence owned by the college.
Heidelberg, a private college affiliated with the United Church of Christ, has 1,200 students and is located in Tiffin, about 40 miles southeast of Toledo in northwestern Ohio.
In the dorm fire that killed three students Wednesday at Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J., there was no sprinkler system.
