Find Your Lost or Stolen Android Phone with Free iTag

Speaking of lost phones (see yesterday's story on how to find missing gear), Android smartphone owners just got a new weapon in the war on lost and stolen hardware. Free app/service iTag can locate missing Android phones.

Specifically, iTag allows you to view your phone's location on a map, make it ring (so you or someone else can find it), back up your data, and even remotely wipe the phone so your data doesn't fall into the wrong hands. This overview video tells all:

So it can make your phone ring even if it's set to vibrate? How cool is that!

Mostly I'm impressed that both the app and service are free -- especially given that the closest iPhone equivalent, MobileMe, costs $99/year.

I'd say if you're an Android user, installing iTag is a no-brainer -- and it could just save your bacon one day. That said, have you used another recovery service you like better? For example, iTag sounds an awful lot like WaveSecure -- though the latter is no longer free. [via Guiding Tech]
