Feliz Navidad From Jon Secada

Singer-songwriter Jon Secada brings his intoxicating blend of tropical rhythms and All-American soul to a performance of Christmas favorites on The Saturday Early Show on Dec. 22.

The two-time Grammy winning artist ought to feel right at home on the show's Second Cup Cafe: His parents ran a coffee shop in Miami when he was a child. The family fled Cuba for the United States when Secada was nine years old.

Growing up in culturally diverse Miami, Jon was steeped in the sounds of salsa, merengue and tropical rhythms. He also developed a passion for R&B and pop music, inspired by such idols as Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, Elton John and Marvin Gaye.

Secada's music is an eclectic fusion of all these sounds, with a bit of funk, soul and Latin percussion mixed in.

He earned a master's degree in jazz vocal performance from the University of Miami before getting his big performing break, as a backup singer for Gloria Estefan in the late 1980s.

His debut album "Jon Secada," released in 1992, sold more than six million copies worldwide. His followup albums, 1994's "Heart Soul and Voice" and 1995's "Amor," brought his career sales total to more than 20 million albums worldwide.

Secada was recently appointed by President Bush to serve on his Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.
