Facebook Pays $8.5 Million for "fb.com" Address

In the movie "The Social Network," Mark Zuckerberg is depicted as your stereotypically humorless geek. But don't be so quick to judge a message by its headline. Turns out that there's an undiscovered impish side to Facebook's hoodie-loving founder.

Facebook today acknowledged paying $8.5 million to buy the Internet address `fb.com' for internal use by its employees from the American Farm Bureau Federation, according to Reuters. A nice payday for the biggest U.S. farm group to be sure, but it was Zuckerberg's bon mot commentary that provided the proper final coda to the day's event.

"The farm bureau has agreed to give us FB.com and we in return have agreed to not sell Farm subsidies."
