Emma Thompson Slams Audrey Hepburn: "She Can't Sing and She Can't Really Act"
NEW YORK (CBS) Emma Thompson had some not-so-nice words for the late Audrey Hepburn.
The British "Nanny McPhee" actress, who is working on a remake of the musical "My Fair Lady" and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Aug. 6, said of the Hollywood icon: "She can't sing and she can't really act."
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter a day before receiving a star on the Walk of Fame the 51-year-old actress said of Hepburn's role in the "My Fair Lady" film, "I thought that there needs to be a new version... I'm not hugely fond of the film. I find Audrey Hepburn fantastically twee."
When asked what "twee" means, she said it's "whimsy without wit. It's mimsy-mumsy sweetness without any bite. And that's not for me."
Thompson added, "perhaps if I had known her I would have enjoyed her acting more, but I don't and I didn't, so that's all there is to it, really."
