E3 Expo 2012: Day 3

(CBS NEWS) Today we started out at Ubisoft's booth to take a look at their latest titles and got hands-on time with ZombiU for the Nintendo Wii U. I love zombie games but I'm also fairly discriminating about my undead survival games. This demo was awesome and a lot of fun. This survival horror game shows exactly how the Wii U's innovative gamepad controller can be (and should be) used to create a deeper gaming experience. Also at the Ubisoft booth and one of our favorites at E3 this year was Watch Dogs. The plot is intriguing and multi-layered but the very basic overall concept behind this action thriller is an exploration of the effects, good and bad, of a society being so heavily tied to technology. The game, set in Chicago, already looks fantastic and has an interesting premise. Look for our upcoming preview for more details. Next we got a behind-closed-doors presentation of Tomb Raider. Thanks to Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics, this Lara Croft seems to be a much more genuine character, a vulnerable and very human heroine complete with doubts and fears, strengths and weaknesses. This new version of Tomb Raider is a welcome departure from the original. The release date feels very far away. Our final meeting of the day took us to Microsoft's booth and a special presentation of the Xbox 360 exclusive Nike+ Training. A very practical use of the Kinect, this fitness training title uses the Kinect's motion tracking abilities to track the players range of movement, flexibility, and speed. The newly announced program seemed very responsive and easy to use. I think this use of the Kinect makes considerably more sense than using motion controls for shooting games or other action games.
