Duhamel: Upstaged By Robots and Loving It

He's upstaged by robots, but Josh Duhamel is enjoying the ride.

Duhamel, one of the stars of "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," discussed on "The Early Show" Wednesday what it's like to be part of a movie that's taken in more than $200 million in the U.S.

Duhamel has returned to the "Transformers" franchise as field commander Maj. Lennox, who is trying to save the world, alongside co-stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox.

Duhamel said playing the military role has to be accurate because there were never less than three or four military advisers as extras on the movie set.

"I'd hear it from them (if I was wrong)," Duhamel told "Early Show" co-anchor Harry Smith.

Duhamel plays the leader of a nonbiological extraterrestrial species team -- also known as a NEST. He told Smith he was surprised they didn't have any bigger firepower since the last film.

"We don't even get bazookas," he said. "In the first movie, we had weapons that did nothing. It's like shooting a marshmallow gun at a bear. And in this one, we're using the same guns. I'm thinking, if we're working in conjunction with the autobots, wouldn't they make weapons that could do damage?"

Smith also pointed out Duhamel didn't wear a helmet during the war scenes, as Smith has seen during wartime.

Duhamel said he tried to wear a helmet during filming, but was told to take it off.

"I'm that tough," Duhamel joked. "This head is like a helmet...those helmets mess up your hair, it just doesn't look good."

But what has the role done for Duhamel's career?

Smith remarked that it's likely to be seen by more people than any other movie in a given year.

Duhamel said it's "cool."

"...Although this obviously isn't the ultimate character piece for me, I'm an accessory to the robots," he said. "...I had so much fun shooting it and traveling around the world promoting it. I feel very lucky to even be a part of something like this."
