"Django Unchained": First official teaser trailer debuts

Christoph Waltz and Jamie Foxx in a scene from "Django Unchained." The Weinstein Company

(CBS News) The first official trailer for Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" was released online Wednesday.

The film stars Jamie Foxx as Django, a freed slave-turned-bounty hunter trying to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from a ruthless plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Christoph Waltz ("Inglourious Basterds") plays Dr. King Schultz, the bounty hunter who frees Django and becomes his mentor.

When asked by Schultz how he likes the bounty hunting business, Django replies, "Kill white folks and get paid for it. What's not to like?"

Near the end of the trailer, Django explains to another character (and, likely, unsure viewers) how his name is pronounced - "The D is silent."

"This Christmas, Django is off the chain," a tagline reads.

The film opens in theaters on Christmas Day.
