Directors' Scary Film Picks

Looking to scare up a little excitement this Halloween with a haunting video rental?

CBS News This Morning asked The Blair Witch Project's co-directors to share their picks for best Halloween videos.

Co-director Eduardo Sanchez says the duo both liked The Exorcist. "That's like the all-time Halloween horror film," he says. "It dealt with the devil."

Then there are films dealing with taboos. "Like The Omen," co-director Daniel Myrick adds. "Just some uncontrollable menace that you can't pinpoint or comprehend."

Sanchez names The Amityville Horror as a favorite.

"The Shining is another good one," says Myrick, adding It's Alive, "really freaked me out."

"I'd see the poster with the little bassinet and the little claw. Whew! Tat did something to me," Myrick says.

For folks who didn't find The Blair Witch Project that scary, here's Sanchez's advice:

"Rent the movie. And wait until like 1 o'clock in the morning, when you're completely alone in your house. Turn off all the lights, pop the tape in and see if it doesn't do something for you," says Sanchez.

The Blair Witch Project, in stores just in time for Oct. 31, follows the gruesome fate of three documentary filmmakers who face the curse of the fabled Blair witch.

"It was shot on video. It was formatted to look like a home movie," Myrick says.

"And as effective as it is on the big screen, it also has [a] sense of immediacy when you watch it on a TV," he says.

Blair Witch was shot on a shoestring budget, but it made more than $140 million at the box office.
