DETROIT, Mich. (CBS/Detroit Free Press)  Carla Wallace says on March 2 she awoke to shattering glass and the thundering steps of an A&E televison crew, after Detroit police reportedly threw a flash grenade through Wallace's front window during the taping of the network's reality series "The First 48," according to the Detroit Free Press.

Wallace, an Oak Park resident, plans to sue the police department, the City of Detroit and the A&E television network in federal court, but the police records are being held hostage, said the newspaper. So now, according to the Detroit Free Press. Wallace on Tuesday filed a different kind of lawsuit in the Oakland County Circuit Court, charging the City of Detroit with violating the state's Freedom of Information Act by denying her access to the records.

When police entered Wallace's home with t-v cameras rolling, they were in search of Derrick Dennard Smith, a prime suspect in the March 1 double slaying of Monica Bottella and Purcell Carson, and who they believed was in Oak Park, said Detroit police spokesman John Roach. Instead, they found Wallace--startled, and dressed in her undergarments.

Wallace's attorney, Thomas Loeb, deemed the use of the flash grenade as unnecessary force and intends to include A&E in the Oak Park lawsuit for trespassing, said the Free Press.

This isn't the only time Detroit police have been accused of "grandstanding" in a raid. Police threw a flash grenade into the home of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones, who was fatally shot and killed May 16 during a raid, where officers were targeting a homicide suspect, and were also accompanied by an A & E crew.
