Create a Snazzy Online Business Card at Card.ly

Looking for a modern way to announce yourself to the world? A business card that says, "I'm living firmly in the 21st Century?" You might think that an augmented reality business card is the right way to go, but baby steps, people. Baby steps. We'll get there. In the meantime, you might want to embed card.ly's online business card in your Web site or e-mail.

Making a card at card.ly is s snap -- enter as much personal and contact information as you like, add social networks, IM accounts, and other ways that people can reach you, and choose your card's look from among two dozen or so skins. The whole process takes just a few minutes, and you end up with an HTML snippet you can embed in your Web site. Here's mine:

card.ly

When users click through to see your card, they'll find a nifty tabbed page that arranges your information in an elegant way, and clicking in the corner allows them to download your information to their contact manager.

Card.ly is free, but the site offers a slew of premium features (like additonal skins, banner-free and ad-free cards, and traffic stats) for $25/year.

Rick and I were a little surprised (and disappointed) to find that Outlook no longer allows you to embed HTML in messages or signatures, because that's exactly how we'd like to put this card to work. Even so, card.ly is pretty cool and I'm sure to find a few ways to use it.
