The Dallas Cowboys on Tuesday released wide receiver Billy Davis.

The signing of wide receiver Raghib Ismail to a seven-year, $21.5 million deal in April made Davis largely expendable.

Last season, his first as a starter, Davis had a career-high 39 receptions for 691 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 11 special teams tackles.

Davis, 26, spent his first three years in Dallas as a special teams player.

He signed with the Cowboys as a rookie free agent out of Pittsburgh in 1995.
