Cops: S.C. man shot friend, says he was aiming at stingray
(CBS/WCSC/AP) AWENDAW, S.C. - A South Carolina man accused of shooting his friend in the head Sunday reportedly claimed he was actually aiming for a stingray in the water.
Ian Anthony Wrobleski, 25, is charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting Paul Wilson Jr. ,27, shortly after midnight Saturday in Awendaw, about 30 miles North of Charleston, reports CBS affiliate WCSC.
Police say witnesses told them the two men were drinking and fishing on a dock outside the suspect's home when they started arguing about religion, according to WCSC. Witnesses say they heard a gunshot and then heard Wrobleski laugh.
One witness reportedly said after the gunshot he heard Wrobleski say, "Ha! We got you, should have seen your face."
The victim, who survived the incident, told police the last thing he remembers is getting in an argument and Wrobleski pointing the rifle at him.
Police say Wrobleski told them he was aiming at a stingray and later claimed he didn't know the .22-caliber rifle was loaded when he pulled the trigger.
The suspects bail was set at $50,000, reports WCSC.
