Cops: Mom left young girls at crime scene with gun

DETROIT - Police say that a Detroit woman left her three young children home alone with a gun while she rushed her fiancé, who had been shot, to the ER, reports CBS Detroit.

According to the station, police say the unnamed woman’s 16 and 19-year-old sons got into an argument with her fiancé and, at some point, one of them allegedly shot the 37-year-old man in the hand with a rifle.

The teens reportedly fled on foot, and the woman, also 37, took her fiancé to the hospital, leaving behind three little girls, ages 1, 4 and 5.

CBS Detroit reports that when police went to the crime scene to investigate the shooting, they found the girls alone with the gun. Sgt. Michael Woody said the girls were living in “horrible condition” without food or beds. Other officers have described the home as “deplorable,” with piles of feces scattered throughout its halls.

All three girls have been removed from the home and are living with their grandparents, reports the station.

The mother was reportedly arrested but charges have not yet been filed.

Woody said police are still trying to track down the woman’s two sons.
