Chicago Violence: 2 dead, 24 wounded in weekend shootings, police say
(CBS) CHICAGO-- Two people were killed and 24 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend, reported the Sun-Times Media Wire.
Chicago Police News Affairs officer Veejay Zala said that the most recent fatal shooting took place at around 3:20 p.m. on Sunday. The 24-year-old victim, whose identity has not yet been released, died from multiple gunshot wounds, said STMW.
Authorities said that at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday, 27-year-old Shannon Ware was fatally shot in the head outside his home and died on the scene, reported STMW.
The Sun-Times said that according to police, the suspect fled the scene in a light-colored sedan.
Among those wounded in shootings over the weekend are a 26-year-old woman and her 2-year-old son, who, police said, were shot during a drive-by. The mother was shot in the wrist and the toddler in the leg. Both are in "stable" condition at Mount Sinai Hospital, said STMW.
No suspects are in custody as local police are still investigating the weekend incidents.
