Cherry-picking family finds pot in Michigan field
(CBS/AP) PAW PAW, Mich. - Some kids out picking cherries with dad found about 50 marijuana plants along the way in a farmer's field in southwestern Michigan.
Pot luck?
Lt. Robert Kirk of the Van Buren County sheriff's department tells MLive.com that the family called shortly after 10 p.m. Wednesday to report the discovery.
Kirk says it appears that someone pulled out a row of corn and planted the drug, knowing that the farmer's field would be fertilized and watered. In cases like this, Kirk says whoever planted the marijuana would usually come back before the corn was harvested.
Authorities say it's common for marijuana growers to try to hide plants farmers' fields this way. Sheriff's deputies pulled up the marijuana plants and they'll be destroyed.
And the family will no doubt remember a delightful day of cherry picking!
