Boyz II Men Back With 'Throwback'

After taking a break from recording and performing, Grammy-winning R&B group Boyz II Men is back.

Their career has generated such singles as "End Of The Road" and "I'll Make Love To You," and album sales of over 60 million. Boyz II Men is releasing a brand new CD called "Throwback," featuring their interpretations of classic pop and R&B hits.

"We basically picked songs that we loved when we were growing up," Wanya Morris told The Early Show, "The songs that we would dance in the mirror in our Underoos."

The first release from a partnership between their new label, MSM Music Group (standing for Morris, Stockman, Morris) and KOCH Records, "Throwback" features Boyz II Men's interpretations of classic pop and R&B hits including Michael Jackson's "Human Nature," Hall & Oates' "Sara Smile" and Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

The album's first single, their take on Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love," keeps with the old-school theme with a contribution from veteran rapper MC Lyte.

Asked what the group has been doing during their time off, Nathan Morris says, "Just writing and producing and we got families now, and sitting back and watching the industry take its turns. Just decided when we should jump back into the game, and we thought this should be the right thing."

Michael McCary, the group's bass vocalist, is now officially out of the group because of a longterm back problem.

"He's chilling right now. Actually, he retired from the group," Shawn Stockman says, "He's had a very weird back problem. He had scoliosis and took him out of the game to avoid the traveling and we thought it was best for him to be home and take care of his health and he's happy now."

Boyz II Men are the recipients of four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, eight Soul Train Awards, five Billboard Awards, four NAACP and two World Music Awards.

Over the past 13 years, the group has sold an astonishing 60 million albums; these include their smash debut, "CooleyHighHarmony," as well as favorites "II" and "Evolution."

Their hit ballad "End Of The Road" ended the reign of Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel" as the longest running No. 1 pop single, then "One Sweet Day," with Mariah Carey topped that record, spending 16 weeks in the No. 1 spot.

While re-establishing themselves, the trio will also produce and sign new acts to MSM. They also plan to go back into the studio to record another studio album soon after the release of "Throwback."
