Border Patrol Recruiting Agents

Despite the floundering economy, some industries are still hiring. The U.S. Border Patrol is currently holding recruiting sessions around the country.

The U.S. Border Patrol is responsible for securing nearly 7,000 miles of Mexican and Canadian international land borders. Among other job functions, Border Patrol Agents watch these borders for terrorists, illegal aliens and smugglers. Recruits earn between $36,000 and $46,000 in their first year. There is potential to earn up to $70,000 for three years of service.

The job includes federal health insurance and other benefits. First-time assignments are in Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas. "This is a good job and a good career. We need to offer it to everyone in the United States," says U.S. Border Patrol Assistant Chief Michael Olsen.

On Saturday, November 15, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recruiters will be in the Northeast looking for potential agents. The hiring blitz is a result of President Bush's mandate to hire 6,000 additional Border Patrol Agents by the end of 2008. Recruiters will be in the New York City area from 9:00am through 5:00pm on Saturday at the following locations:
