Boomers: The Worst Generation?

My posts about generational change in the workforce tend to draw a lot of readership. Nothing to do with my brilliant writing skills, mind you; people just seem naturally drawn to the topic.

So I'm reading comments on a recent post, Generation X Is Now In Charge, when I drop my bottle of Geritol upon reading this comment by "myatuski":

"Gen X. the generation raised by the worst generation in history up to date (I know I am one of them so do not get offended)- boomers. Just another step in decline towards the sewer for our ones great civilization."
Ouch! Damn it, myatuski, that hurt! Boomers put a man on the moon! Oh, wait, that was the previous generation. But we were the first generation to identify global warming as a real threat, even if we didn't do much about it -- do we have to do EVERYTHING? Hey, there were no "world wars" under our watch, something the so-called "Greatest Generation" can't claim.

And my God! The Internet. We did that, too. The Mac/iPhone/iPod/iTunes? Yup. Steve Jobs is boomster material. "Seinfeld", DNA sequencing, those cute little Mars rovers. That's us, dude! I'm not sure about the Beatles and the Stones, but I'm throwing them in the Boomer Basket. Joe Montana, Haight-Ashbury, Stephen Sondheim, "Vanity Fair", Oprah, J.K. Rowling, and Bollywood, too. Killer asteroids. Flat organizations. Hip replacements. The dorgi.

Maybe the subprime crisis wasn't our shining moment. But for every Madoff we have a Madden! Whatchyougot, Xers, Yers? Geocahing? Lindsay/Paris?

Boomers the worst generation? There has to be a generation worse than us.

Right?
