Blue Jays Edge Anaheim 3-2
Tony Fernandez looked better than ever in his 2,000th game.
Fernandez raised his average to .404 and singled to set up Darrin Fletcher's go-ahead single in the eighth inning Wednesday night, leading the Toronto Blue Jays over the Anaheim Angels 3-2.
Fernandez, who went 2-for-4, leads the majors in hitting.
When it was announced he was playing his 2,000th game in the sixth inning, Fernandez received a standing ovation. He tipped his helmet.

The Blue Jays won their third in a row. Anaheim has lost three straight.
Reliever Scott Schoeneweis (0-1) walked Carlos Delgado and gave up a single to Fernandez before Fletcher lined a single to left field.
Â"Delgado had a tremendous at-bat,Â" Anaheim manager Terry Collins said. Â"It was 3-2, he fouled off five straight pitches, he walks. Tony comes up and hits the ball in the hole and all of a sudden you're in a jam. You can hardly blame the pitcher for that.Â"
Graeme Lloyd (4-2) pitched a scoreless eighth. Billy Koch pitched a hitless ninth for his fifth save.
Anaheim starter Steve Sparks baffled Blue Jay hitters with his knuckleball through the first six innings, but they got to him in the seventh.
Fletcher walked, Geronimo Berroa singled and Jose Cruz Jr. loaded the bases with a bunt single.
Homer Bush followed with an RBI groundout and Shannon Stewart's run-scoring single tied it at 2.
Randy Velarde drove in both runs for Anaheim. He had an RBI groundout in the first and a run-scoring single in the third.
Sparks gave up two runs on six hits in 6 1-3 innings.
Toronto starter Joey Hamilton, who has yet to win a game in the AL, gave up two runs and six hits in seven innings.
Â"It's a nice feeling to go out there and contribute. You just try to build on this positive,Â" Hamilton said.
Notes: Koch has converted five of six save opportunities ... Bush has 11 stolen bass in 12 attempts. ... After Tuesday night's 13-2 loss at SkyDome, the Angels held a 45-minute, closed-door meeting. ... The Angels are 0-5 in Toronto this season.
