(CBS News) After awakening from a coma over the weekend, Bee Gees star Robin Gibb has one thing on his mind: To get better and get back to work.

Although the singer is still weak and malnourished, he's in positive spirits. He's fully conscious and able to speak.

"He's laughing. He's joking. He's really happy," Gibb's wife Dwina told ITV News. "He just wants to get out."

Gibb's son Robin-John added, "They gave him an under 10 percent survival chance and he has beaten the odds ... he really is something else."

While he was in a coma, Gibb's family played Bee Gees songs, as well as Gibb's recent classical composition "Titanic Requiem." The music may have helped Gibb regain consciousness, his wife said. His family saw Gibb mouthing lyrics "on cue" as he woke up from the coma.

The 62-year-old singer has advanced colorectal cancer and remains in intensive care. He recently came down with pneumonia following chemotherapy treatments and two operations.

Now doctors are focused on building Gibb's strength. They're hopeful he can soon be moved out of the intensive care unit and into the main hospital ward, ITV News reports.
