(CBS) Two things are intriguing about the new Barry Manilow album, "15 Minutes."

First, he says he was inspired to write it after watching Britney Spears get hounded by paparazzi and wondered if that's the price of fame.

Second, in that reasoning there's a tacit admission he's never been hounded by paparazzi - at least not since "Mandy."

Manilow, 67, relayed the story for the album's inspiration to Robin Roberts on "Good Morning America" Wednesday. He told Roberts that he chose fame as a topic because he wanted to do something beyond writing more I-want-you-I-miss-you songs.
