Are You Being Lied To at Work?
In the workplace, people lie all the time. (Actually, people lie all the time everywhere, but let's stick with work for now.) They tell you that they've done stuff when they haven't, that they understand stuff when they don't, and that they will do stuff they have no plans to do. So how do you figure out when you're being deceived so you can cut the crap and get things done?
According to an article in Yahoo! Finance, there are several auditory and visual cues you can use to figure out if someone's feeding you B.S. These include nose, eye and neck rubbing and upward speech inflections. (When I was younger, I unconsciously followed every lie--and zero truths--to my parents with a "Sir" or a "Ma'am", so it was pretty easy for them to figure out what I was up to.)
Some of the methods mentioned (like amateur handwriting analysis) seem like overkill, but it makes sense to be on guard if a coworker is exhibiting a bunch of these signs when you are working together.
