Anne Hathaway to Appear on "Glee"
NEW YORK (CBS) Anne Hathaway is following in the footsteps of Gwyneth Paltrow, Katie Couric and Britney Spears - as a guest star on "Glee."
The actress will play Golden Globe winner Chris Colfer's lesbian aunt, a role she invented for herself.
"We just finalized a deal with Anne tonight to come onto the show," "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy told People magazine on Sunday at the Golden Globe Awards, where the show was named best comedy or musical for the second straight year.
"She's already created [her role]," he added. "She wants to play the lesbian aunt of Chris Colfer. Because everyone needs a lesbian aunt."
Back in November, Hathaway confessed her desire to appear on "Glee," and even revealed what song she'd want to sing.
""I would want to play Kurt's long lost aunt, his mother's sister, who is also gay, who comes back to help him deal with sexuality," Anne revealed on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon." "And I would sing 'No One Is Alone' from Stephen Sondheim's epic show 'Into the Woods.'"
Murphy revealed to Access Hollywood that the deal went down during the Golden Globes telecast.
"She walked by our table and we have a mutual friend and I said, 'Do you really want to do it?' And she said, 'I do.' And I said, 'OK, we're gonna do it.'"
He added that they will likely film her guest role in the coming weeks.
"I think we'll do it probably in a month and a half or so... I have to talk to Anne about what she wants to sing. I'm sure she has ideas," he said. "I'm excited about that."
