Amazon Plans Big-Screen Kindle

The next big thing in e-book readers: Larger screens. Amazon.com (NSDQ: AMZN) is set to introduce a bigger-screen version of its Kindle e-book reader before the 2009 holiday shopping season, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing people who have seen the device. That means that by the beginning of 2010 at least three companiesHearst, Plastic Logic and Amazonwill have big-screen e-readers on the market.
News Corp (NYSE: NWS) has also said it is investing in an e-reader with a bigger screen than the current Kindle, although that device seems still to be in the exploratory phase. As the Journal notes, all the new e-readers are going after the market for newspaper and magazine publishers looking for new ways to deliver their content. Of course, Amazon probably has the advantage here, considering how established its Kindle already is.
