"Amazing Race" Approaches Finish Line

Harlem Globetrotters Flight Time and Big Easy were eliminated this week in an "Amazing Race" episode that took contestants through Prague for a second week and saw only a few stumbles but a lot more bickering.

The final three teams who will race through Las Vegas in next week's finale are dating couple Meghan and Cheyne; brothers Sam and Dan; and married couple Erika (a former Miss America) and Brian. As usual, Meghan and Cheyne were first at the pit stop, winning a 52-inch HD TV. Sam and Dan were next.

The Globetrotters hit their stumbling block at Ekotechnicke Museumm, where in an enormous warehouse filled with dozens of ringing telephones, one team member had to find the five phones that had someone else on the other end of the line. When they picked up one of those five phones, a voice would give them one letter. Then they had to unscramble the letters to form a word - Franz.

Big Easy and Dan agreed to collaborate as they tried to unscramble the word - not knowing whether it was a Czech or an English word. But when Dan got the correct answer, he left Big Easy behind, telling him only that the word began with F. The basketball player spent hours trying to unscramble the letters before giving up and incurring a four-hour penalty that put them well behind the other racers.

The final task was a detour in which teams could choose between putting clay on a Golem, a figure made of straw and clay constructed to protect the Jewish quarters in the 15th Century, or delivering beer to from one bar to another, running a gauntlet of rowdy soccer fans.

Erika and Brian chose the beer task; the other two teams packed clay on the Golem and transported it through the streets of Prague to a synagogue. This is where the arguing broke out, first between Cheyne and Meghan over how to best move the figure, which Cheyne kept complaining was so heavy.

But their argument seemed insignificant in the face of the full-scale shouting match the brothers engaged in as they hauled their figure across town. Did they not learn anything from the previous legs in which arguing slowed them down and brought them to tears? They seem destined to make the same mistake over and over, unless their luck changes in Vegas.
