Albuquerque Hospital Locked Down after Shooting

CBS affiliate KRQE in Albuquerque reports that a man entered a hospital room on the sixth floor at University of New Mexico Hospital Tuesday where his girlfriend is a patient. The two then had an argument during which he began hitting her, said witnesses.

The girlfriend's family intervened when the man, identified as Daniel Cesar Dominguez-Garcia, 21, pulled a small-caliber handgun, fired one shot without hitting anyone and then fled the scene, said witnesses.

Police responded by locking down the building, parking structure and the adjacent UNM North and Central campuses. Officer determined that Dominguez had left the area and lifted the lockdown at 4:30 p.m. local time.

Surveillance video shows Dominguez leaving the building about an hour after the shooting.

KRQE reports, "Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz describes Dominguez as 5 feet 6 inches tall, thin and bald with numerous tattoos.

"Central New Mexico Community College south of the UNM Central campus also was locked down briefly during the manhunt."
