Air Force Awards Boeing Major C-17 Support Contract
The U.S. Air Force awarded Boeing the C-17 manufacturer a contract to provide logistics support and management of its C-17 fleet. Reuters says that the contract is worth over $1 billion. With the possibility that the production of the aircraft is winding down this contact maintains Boeing's involvement with the aircraft. The contract calls for parts supply and management and support to the depot for the aircraft. The U.S. military and Congress have gone back and forth in recent years on whether to increase the C-17 fleet beyond its current size. Airlift has proven key in the fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
