After 13 months, roving cosmos camera sends final image
The WISE mission has come to an end, sending back its final image.
The Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) was designed as a relatively brief mission to map the sky in infrared light. The craft ran out of the coolant required to chill its detectors last year. But before closing down, WISE sent back this image on Feb. 1 of the constellation Perseus.During its 13-month survey, WISE took millions of infrared images of the entire. NASA expects to share the first batch of photos this April, with the final release slated for the spring of 2012.
