(CBS) Adele's sophomore album "21" tops the Billboard charts for the 15th time, becoming the fastest-selling record in seven years and edging closer to the 16-week chart topping run of the "Titanic" soundtrack in 1998.

The Grammy-winning singer's album sold 124,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, despite a typical post-holiday album sales drop off, reports the New York Times.

According to Billboard, since 1990 only six albums have spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. "Titanic" reigned for 16 weeks in 1998, as did Vanilla Ice's "To the Extreme" in 1990 and 1991. Bill Ray Cyrus' "Some Gave All" had 17 weeks at No. 1 in 1992 and Garth Brooks' "Ropin' the Wind" with 18 in 1991-1992. Whitney Houston's "The Bodyguard" soundtrack and M.C. Hammer "Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em," earned 20 and 21 weeks respectively, having the most weeks at No. 1 since 1990.

On Billboard's digital songs chart Jason Mraz's "I Won't Give Up" hit the No. 1 spot with 229,000 downloads.
