A Schoolyard You Can Eat

Kids from the school grow their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs. It gives them way to learn about the environment and about the best way to help plants grow.
But it's also a way to learn about healthy eating. Because when the food is ready to harvest, they take it inside and cook it up for lunch.
"It's neat to be able to go outside and pick things knowing that you're picking what you're going to eat," one student said.
A restaurant owner who lives nearby came up with the idea for the Edible Schoolyard, but it's the kids who keep it going—and growing.
