A Hotspot That Goes Where You Go

airbox.jpgRemember the CradlePoint CTR-350 Cellular Travel Router, which leverages your broadband USB modem to create a go-anywhere Wi-Fi hotspot? The WAAV AirBox CM3 does more or less the same thing, except that it packs its own 3G modem. In other words, it's a hotspot-in-a-box -- or, if you prefer, an enterprise cellular router.

Designed with vehicles in mind, the AirBox works at speeds of up to 100 mph. (It's also suitable for slow-moving conference rooms.) It supports both EV-DO Rev. A and HSDPA networks and delivers 802.11g Wi-Fi. It also includes a pair of Ethernet ports for wired connections; an optional GPS receiver enables it to be used for vehicle tracking.

The AirBox sells for $499.99, and of course you'll need a data plan from your cellular provider. In addition to its obvious travel advantages, it could be an ideal solution for small offices looking for an easy way to deploy Internet connectivity. Just plug it in and presto: Instant Wi-Fi at a range of up to 300 feet. [via Gizmag]
