2nd Explosion Jars Fla. A&M

A small pipe bomb exploded Wednesday in a restroom at Florida A&M University, the second blast in less than a month at the historically black school.

No injuries were reported. Damage seemed minor and there was no fire, said fire Capt. Cindy Dick.

The bomb went off on the first floor of Perry Paige Hall, which has four floors of laboratories, offices, classrooms and the Navy ROTC office.

Paige Hall and two nearby buildings were evacuated, said university spokesman Eddie Jackson.

Jackson said Wednesday's explosion appeared to be bigger than the Aug. 31 blast that did minor damage in a first-floor men's room at an administrative building. No one was injured in that blast either.

In that case, a caller gave a warning 10 minutes before the blast, using a racial slur and indicating he wanted to "get rid of" some of the people at the college, which has more than 11,000 students enrolled.

Authorities would not immediately say if there was a warning call Wednesday.

A $10,000 reward was offered after the first bombing.

"Everyone is pretty upset," said senior Olevia Robinson. "The next time someone might definitely get hurt."
