Unique Mashed Potato Dishes In South Florida

Customers may not think much of the mashed potato side dish, but it is a great accompaniment with entrees. Mashed potatoes have a place in modern American culinary and culture--to some children, mashed potatoes are so good and creamy that the rest of the food could be skipped altogether in order to eat them. These five restaurants find a unique way to make the mashed potato dish so good that it could stand alone as a meal.

Miami Beach, FL 33139

Even the most glamorous of restaurants has the dish available to customers. Juvia offers a unique way to eat mashed potatoes, serving them as the Aligot dish, traditionally eaten in France. The mashed potatoes are placed into a bowl with melted cheese, crushed garlic, butter and salt. The cheese that is melted is Tomme d'Auvergne, a French country cheese, and the dish takes a fondue-like appearance in which other foods can be dipped in, but it is better eaten alone.

Lobster mashed potatoes is the dish here--cut pieces of lobster meat and mashed potatoes whipped to perfection with butter, milk and salt. Order them with any one of the delicious cuts of steak from the Meat Market to eat along with dark red wine and sink into the sleepy ambiance of twinkling lights, bustling activity and conversation at your table.

This restaurant has its own menu section strictly for mashed potatoes in addition to regular entrees and salads. Customers can order from classic, loaded, roasted garlic, miso flavored or sweet potato. Many customers can say that they've tasted the miso flavoring in a soup ordered when eating at a Japanese restaurant, but miso might never taste as good as this again.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33304

This restaurant that serves fried quail and waffle as an appetizer also serves sweet potato grits as a side dish on its menu. A puree of sweet potatoes and not mashed, the dish is exceptional because it is combined with grits and most of the ingredients needed to make mashed potatoes (milk, salt, butter, cream) are also used in the preparation for the grits.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33312

The Irish culture created one of the most unique entrees in cuisine that is a different take on a basic meat and potatoes dish--bangers and mash. Served with crispy onion straws and gravy, the meal satisfies any hungry belly and is to be washed down with a pint of cold Irish beer. The Field brings the flavor of feeling Irish (usually seen on St. Patty's Day) to South Florida, 365 days a year, playing music Tuesday through Saturday.
